Last Gasp show at grass hut

bwana spoons

In 2005 (I think) I started Grass Hut as a way to show all my personal work. I’d always take my new goodies over to shops to sell, and they would choose… hmmm I want this one and this one. But not that one, or those. I just wanted a place to have everything I made available to the public in one spot.

An intern I had at the time really wanted his own gallery… but he was struggling to keep it up on his own, so I stepped in and got my own wall and a little studio in the back room of his space. It really wasn’t much longer before he completely bowed out and then It was all mine. I was left with a choice to try and run this space on my own. I could see I might have some of the same struggles running it by myself as well… I don’t remember how. But i asked scrappers to join me, and that’s when Grass Hut really took off. The two of us kinda cemented our bond, and scrappers was just as into this thing as me. We had a shitload of shows, some pretty magical installations, and made a buttload of radical friends. Eventually Scrappers needed to make some hard choices and opted to give up Grass Hut. I was able to run it another year on my own. Trying to be a full time artist and run a legitimate gallery on my own though… It was too much, so I found a new partner… but this was a totally different kind. This partner was a shop, that would be the host for all my shinanigans. Floating World. We have now moved around together multiple times, and my shop inside their shop has gone from really substantial, to a tiny rack to a mini row, to a tiny corner shop, and now this wierd spread out thing wit ha gallery wall and a window over the course of 15 (?) years. It’s a long time.

Well now our recent stint at Lloyd is coming to an end. We’ll be moving to Pioneer Place mid August. So come join us one last time here at Lloyd before they officially close the whole dang mall.

Last Gasp will feature a fancy bevy of artists on the wall, and a few radical artists doing their own tables. Come see some bitchin’ art and hang with old friends and maybe meet a few new ones. Thursday July 9th from 4-7pm.
